Yellowstone for Labor Day Weekend

We (& another couple) decided to get a little wild and crazy for Labor Day Weekend and go outside our box.....on a ROAD TRIP! Yellowstone National Park it was! So we set out on Saturday and traveled 10+ hours going south through Idaho -- makin it to Jackson Hole,

Wyoming. We could live there. It was absolutely gorgeous and cute little town! We walked around the "main central" part of JH before we continued on our journey.

On our way to Old Faithful, we wondered off on different roads where we encountered a huge herd of Buffalo. Amazing sight! Back on the road, and we come to Old Faithful. Every 1 1/2 she blows, so we sat in the car, ate some lunch, then went and claimed our seats. Sure enough, there she went, just amazing what the earth does! We spent 3 more hours walking to all the other geysers in the park--definitely had our walking in for the day! We ended Sunday night in West Yellowstone, MT...and on the way saw some Elk---beautiful animal!
Monday morning, we set out early and stopped at a few water falls that are absolutely breath taking. We also stopped and took the in the "Grand Canyon" of Yellowstone. Breathtaking sight...it takes your breath away as you are standing atop those steep mountains--looking down and seeing one of the largest waterfalls and the river in the canyon.
Continuing on, we headed towards Mammoth Hot Springs. On our way as we went around a corner, we spotted the butt end of a black bear cresting over a hill. We hurried and turned back around, but he was gone. (Our goal was to see a bear and moose). Mammoth Hot Springs was neat, we didn't feel like hiking all the way around it---it's quite large, so we walked around the visitor's center, then off to check in to our hotel. Quite early yet, we played Hand & Foot the remainder of the afternoon/evening.

Tuesday, we headed for home, and enjoyed taking in all the scenery Montana had to offer. Another 10 hour trip, and made it home safe and sound...& happy to be out of a vehicle for a day....or more! :o)
